Peekskill, NY/June 19, 2008 – Kieran
Michael Lalor, the Republican candidate for Congress challenging
Democrat John Hall in New York's 19th Congressional District, today
announced another important union endorsement from the NYPD’s
Sergeants Benevolent Association (SBA) which has 11,000 active and
retired members.
In a letter of endorsement, SBA President Edward D. Mullins said,
"Lalor’s commitment to national security and to the law enforcement
community is remarkable.” Continued Mullins, “We respect the rule of
law and we believe strongly that the job of ensuring the safety of
our fellow citizens is perhaps the most sacred responsibility in our
society. Lalor has exemplified that responsibility.”
Reacting to the endorsement Lalor said, "To be endorsed by a group
of people who routinely put their necks on the line for our country
and community is both humbling and inspiring. I will not let them
down.” Continue Lalor, “The NYPD and specifically the SBA are the
gold standard in crime fighting and they are vital to our
preparedness for terror attacks and natural disasters.”
Lalor, who worked closely with first responders from around the
country including the NYPD when he drove to the Gulf Coast during
Hurricane Katrina and performed search and rescue missions in flood
ravaged New Orleans said, "People who are willing to risk their
lives everyday for strangers ought to have a tenacious advocate in
Washington and I will be that advocate."
"Moreover, the goal of my campaign for Congress is to give a voice
to working class people who for too long have been ignored by
politicians who cater to the very rich and the poor but forget about
the great Middle Class that makes the Hudson Valley and the nation
go."
In December 2007 Lalor was endorsed by the National NYCPD 10-13, the
organization that represents all retired New York City Police
Officers. In January he was endorsed by the FDNY’s Uniformed Fire
Officer’s Union. Of the early endorsements Lalor said, "The backbone
of our country and community are our first responders and our
veterans, so it is quite fitting that these brave men and women are
also the backbone of our campaign of issues, ideas and solutions."
